The Nostra.lt–RKL season was opened by the Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) team, which defeated Druskininkai Akvilė 99:96 (27:19, 22:32, 24:31, 26:14) at the President Valdas Adamkus Sports Center.
The VMU students started the game better, confidently controlling the pace until the middle of the second quarter. After Adrijus Kozys accurate free throws, they had built up a record lead (37:24), but Druskininkai responded with an impressive 15:0 run and took the lead before the long break (42:39).
In the second half, the visitors did not slow down and increased their lead (70:61). With 7 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Akvilė had a double-digit lead (89:77), but then VMU got a second wind – winning a 15:2 run, they regained the lead (92:91).
At the end of the game, Robertas Bitinas had a chance to force overtime for Druskininkai (94:91), but his inaccurate shot sealed the victory for VMU.
Žygimantas Sabaliauskas was unstoppable for VMU, scoring 23 points in 29 minutes (3/8 two-pointers, 1/6 three-pointers, 15/16 free throws), grabbing 14 rebounds, making 2 assists, and collecting 38 efficiency points.
