After a long break, Šakiai Vytis-VDU (11-4) demonstrated an impressive attack and recorded their third consecutive URBO-NKL victory. Erikas Kučiauskas’s team defeated Mažeikiai M Basket (8-8) 103:89 (22-21, 22-32, 32:22, 27:14) away against Mažeikiai’s M Basket (8-8).
Gabrielius Čelka, who had his best performance of the season, recorded a triple-double in this match. The 24-year-old from Kaunas also achieved this feat last season.
In 36 minutes, the guard scored 14 points (7/10 two-pointers, 0/1 three-pointers), grabbed 12 rebounds and stole 6 balls, recorded 10 assists, made 5 mistakes and finished the game with 30 efficiency points.
The last triple-double in the country’s second-strongest league was recorded on October 18 by Mantvydas Žukauskas, captain of Vilkaviškis Perlas Go.
Rokas Jocys, who played even more effectively, also put on the best show of the season. The 21-year-old from Palanga scored 26 points (6/6 two-pointers, 1/4 three-pointers, 11/12 free throws), 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 7 fouls drawn, 3 turnovers, and 31 efficiency points in 27 minutes.
The hosts won the first half comfortably, 53-44, but the picture changed dramatically after the break.
Šakiai closed the gap to one point (50:53), then took the lead (66:60), but ultimately entered the decisive quarter with a minimal advantage (76:75).
With four minutes left, the score was tied (84:84), but Rokas Jocius and Kajus Leliukas inspired Vyčio-VDU to a 15:2 run that knocked Mažeikiai out of the game, 99:86.
The visitors won the second half of the game 59:36.
