
Strongest in the Baltic States: Kaunas-VDU volleyball players lifted the championship trophy in Estonia
After a three-year hiatus, the Kaunas-VDU women’s volleyball team regained its title as the strongest team in the Baltics. On Sunday, the Kaunas team triumphed in the Elme Messer Baltic Championship Final Four tournament held in Estonia. In the final, the Lithuanian team defeated Tartu TU-Bigbank (Estonia) 3:1 (31:29, 22:25, 25:14, 25:23). The match began dramatically. In the first set, the Estonians led 20:13 and 22:16, but the Kaunas team did not give up and evened the score at 23:23. Later, the Estonian club failed to take advantage of opportunities to win the set, and in the end, the Kaunas team managed to do so – Martyna Paukštytė’s point decided the first set 31:29. In the second set, the Tartu team quickly pulled ahead again, but this time the Kaunas team was unable to catch up with their opponents, and the overall score was tied. The Kaunas-VDU volleyball players began to demonstrate their true potential in the third set – they immediately took the lead with a double-digit advantage of 17:7 and did not relinquish the initiative until the end of the set.
