With a record number of three-pointers, the Šakiai Vyčio-VDU (12-5) basketball players moved closer to the top of the URBO-NKL tournament table. Erikas Kučiauskas’s team won 106:80 (27:21, 28:18, 25:22, 26:19) away from home.
Vyčio-VDU climbed to third place in the club rankings, while the league debutants are in second place.
With 17 out of 38 three-pointers (45 percent) made, the Šakiai team repeated this URBO-NKL season record. Vilnius Ryto-2 and Kretinga-Rivile teams also made 17 accurate long-range shots.
The visitors made a decisive break in the second quarter, scoring seven three-pointers in a row, and after Gabriel Čelka’s dunk, their 13-0 run gave them a 22-point lead, 55-33.
Although the debutants managed to reduce the deficit to 5 points (55:60) after the long break, Kučiauskas’s team scored another 13:0 run and confidently marched towards victory – 73:55.
Januševičius scored 22 points (6/6 two-pointers, 3/5 three-pointers, 1/3 free throws), 7 rebounds and 2 steals, 3 assists, 2 turnovers and 29 efficiency points in almost 31 minutes.
Augustinas Mikštas added a double-double in 32 minutes – 16 points (3/9 two-pointers, 3/4 three-pointers, 1/2 free throws), 16 rebounds, one block, and 23 efficiency points.
Čelka and Rokas Jocys played at a triple-double pace. The latter collected 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists, while Čelka had 12 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, and 7 assists.
