In the URBO-NKL tournament table clash, Šakiai Vyčio-VDU (21-8) celebrated victory. The Šakiai team won 87:77 (28:23, 21:13, 20:20, 18:21) in their away game against Kaunas Žalgiris-2 (19-9).
This time, assistant coach Deividas Kumelis replaced Erikas Kučiauskas as head coach of the Šakiai team.
In their first match, Žalgiris celebrated a 96:84 victory. After taking revenge, Vytis-VDU retained second place in the club rankings, while Kaunas remains in third.
After the first six minutes of play, the score was tied (16:16), but over the next two and a half minutes, Šakiai scored 10 unanswered points to take a double-digit lead (26:16).
By the half-time buzzer, Vytis-VDU, who had demonstrated solid defense, had increased their lead slightly (49:36). In 20 minutes, the visitors scored 20 points on fast breaks, while Zalgiris failed to score a single point.
After three quarters, the Šakiai team’s lead remained unchanged (69:56). However, inspired by Dominykas Urbonavičius, who scored 10 points, the hosts went on a 14:6 run and reduced the deficit to 70:75 with 4.5 minutes remaining.
After a minute’s break, the visitors regained a double-digit lead (83:73) and did not relinquish it.
Kajus Leliukas led Šakiai to victory with a double-double – 21 points (7/11 two-pointers, 2/3 three-pointers, 1/2 free throws), 11 rebounds, 1 steal, 2 assists, 3 blocks, 4 turnovers, and 26 efficiency points in 29 minutes.
His best assistant was Gabrielius Čelka, who scored 18 points and made 7 assists, while Titas Januševičius added 14 points and 8 rebounds.
