VMU Athletes’ Triumph in Student Games SELL 2018

17-22 of May SELL (Finland, Estonia, Lithunia and Latvia) Games took place in Tartu (Estonia). It is an international sports competition for students.

SELL games bigger purpose is to promote student sports. SELL Games are for amateur, competitive or professional athletes and this year students are going to compete in 12 different disciplines: Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Floorball, Judo, Mini-football, Powerlifting, Swimming, Table tennis, Volleyball and Wrestling.

To the SELL games went a delegation from Vytautas Magnus university.

Three days full of effort and fun ended with the ending ceremony at The University of Tartu Academic Sports Club. The baton has been ceremoniously passed to Lithuania where in the next spring the SELL games 2019 will be held.

Lithuania and Estonia were the most successful counties at the SELL games. Lithuanian Sports University won 38 medals, from which of 10 were gold medals. The second best university was University of Tartu with 35 medals.

The farthest competing country at the SELL games 2018 was China whose delegation enjoyed visiting and competing in Estonia.

In the SELL student games 1150 students from 49 universities and nine different countries took part.

Vytautas Magnus University was represented by the best athletes, basketball players, badminton and table tennis players. The VMU basketball team swept all the rivals and got a golden trophy. The basketball team consisted of the following VMU students: Marijus Užupis, Rytis Juknevičius, Mykolas Dieninis, Ernestas Sederevičius, Regimantas Miniotas, Aurimas Urbonas, Ignas Labutis, Dominikas Domarkas, Paulius Danisevičius, Vainius Steponavičius. Team coaches – Arūnas Juknevičius, Airidas Nutautas.

Gold medals won Povilas Bartušis (badminton) and judo fighter Inesa Jurchenko (weight category up to 70 kg). The silver medal won Dominykas Petrosevicius (triple-shooter, 14.84) and Eva Misiūnaitė (200 m sprint, 24.16 seconds). E. Misiūnaitė also won the bronze in the 100 m sprint match (11.88 seconds).

Vitalja Venckutė and Monika Kavaliūnaitė werw distributed 5-8 places in the two-table tennis. In the single match, V. Venckutė won 9th place, having landed at fierce fighters from China, and M. Kavaliūnaitė – 11th place.

The head of VMU delegation were Vladas Juknevičius ir Asta Mockienė.
