10th Jubilee “Adamkiada” Held at VDU President Valdas Adamkus Sports Centre
On June 7, the 10th edition of Adamkiada—a vibrant celebration of sport and the arts that unites young talents from across Lithuania—echoed through the halls of the President Valdas Adamkus Sports Centre at Vytautas Magnus University (VDU). More than 20 schools from all over the country took part in the event. Adamkiada proudly continues the tradition started by the Alma Adamkienė Charity and Support Fund, which has long supported students and schools in Lithuania’s regions.
Emotions Beyond Words
The highlight of the event was the awards ceremony, where President Valdas Adamkus personally greeted the participants and handed out the winning trophies.
“It’s heartening to see this event taking place for the tenth year. What began in the small town of Butrimonys has now become a rooted, meaningful event that supports youth development,” said President Adamkus.
VDU Vice-Rector for Studies Dr. Simona Pilkienė emphasized the emotional atmosphere:
“We all felt the incredible energy in the Sports Centre – it was something words can’t describe. But the emotions of the children and all the participants say it all. The event was a great success thanks to the dedication of our sponsors and organizers. We wish the President, and all of us, the strength to keep this tradition going.”
Sports, Arts, and Core Values
Adamkiada is more than just a series of competitions – it’s a values-based event that continues the legacy of Alma Adamkienė’s foundation. It fosters cooperation among the Fund’s partner schools, nurtures conscious, civically engaged youth, and encourages the preservation of cultural traditions and national identity.
This year’s event brought together several prominent figures, including representatives from BC Žalgiris, Olympic 3×3 basketball player and VDU lecturer Mantas Kalnietis, VDU Director of Sports Gediminas Navickas, and one of Lithuania’s top swimmers – VDU student Kotryna Teterevkova.
Achievements Beyond Athletics
The competitions spanned not only athletics – including running, long jump, basketball, and football – but also artistic disciplines such as music and visual arts. In the overall team standings, Kaunas District Garliava Jonučių Progymnasium took first place with a total of 140 points. President Valdas Adamkus Gymnasium claimed second place (121 points), and Alytus District Butrimonys Gymnasium followed in third (107 points).
