An impressive achievement: all VMU representatives won medals at the European Student Rowing Championships

Students from Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) performed exceptionally well at the European University Rowing Championships held in Bydgoszcz (Poland) on September 17-21, winning four medals – one gold and three silver.

In the quadruple sculls event, the VMU team posted the best time in the qualifying round (2:52.36 min.) and improved their result by almost three seconds in the final (2:49.38 min.) to become European champions.

Benas Paunksnis, Domantas Riauba, Dovydas Nemeravičius, and Rokas Jakubauskas earned the title of Old Continent champions in this event.

In the single sculls event, D. Nemeravičius won the qualifying round (3:24.94 min.), recorded the best time in the semifinals (3:21.10 min.), and improved his result in the Group A final (3:18.78 min.), but remained in second place. The Lithuanian was overtaken by Fabian Baranski, a representative of the University of Economy in Bydgoszcz (Poland) and a medalist at the Paris Olympic Games and several world championships.

Domantas Janickas and Vilius Juška, who competed in the double sculls, finished second in the qualifying race (3:26.36 min.) and advanced to the A final, where they significantly improved their time (3:16.07 min.) and won silver medals.

Julius Krasauskas and Geraldas Gavrilovas, who competed in the double sculls, won their qualifying race (3:13.54 min.) and finished just over a second behind the leaders in the final (3:06.73 min.), winning silver medals.

Vytautas Magnus University, which won four awards, shares first and fourth place in terms of the number of medals – the same number of awards were won by the universities of Aveiro (Portugal), Szechenyi Istvano (Hungary), and Zagreb (Croatia).

The university rowing team was led by coach Virgilijus Prušinskas at the competition in Poland.
