Last Saturday, Kaunas University of Technology hosted the Lithuanian Student Sambo Championship, which brought together the best athletes from seven higher education institutions. Representatives of Vytautas Magnus University (VDU) won five individual and one team award.
In the women’s weight category up to 80 kg, the winner was VDU student Marta Navickaitė, while two VDU representatives triumphed in the men’s competition – Simas Polikevičius won the weight category up to 71 kg, and Marijus Mitrochinas was the best in the weight category up to 98 kg.
In the weight category up to 71 kg, VDU student Tadas Čalka won the silver medal, Augis Raulušonis came eleventh, and Kostiantyn Byelgorodskyi came thirteenth.
Antanas Klimačiauskas won the bronze medal, beating four other competitors in the weight category above 98 kg.
A. Raulušonis also competed in the weight category up to 79 kg, where he took fourth place. Maksimiljanas Učkuronis, who competed in the same category, finished seventh. Dovydas Sabastijanskas took fourth place in the weight category up to 88 kg.
In the men’s team competition, the VDU team led by Petras Vinciūnas was only surpassed by the fighters from Vilnius University, thus taking second place.
