Kaunas Žalgiris’ reserves (4-1) continue to demonstrate successful play at the start of the National Basketball League (URBO-NKL). Led by Maksim Brnovič from Montenegro and Roko Kondratavičius, the team defeated Šakiai Vyčio-VDU (2-2) 96:84 (29:23, 24:19, 26:25, 17:17) in an away game.
With 2.5 minutes remaining in the first quarter, the young Zalgiris players were trailing by 2 points (21:23), but then went on a 20:7 run in 6.5 minutes and built a double-digit lead (41:30), which they maintained until the break (53:42).
The Kaunas team continued their good play in the third quarter, increasing their lead over the hosts to 16 points (70:54) with 3 minutes remaining before the decisive run. In the remaining time, Žalgiris-2 did not let their opponents get close and recorded their fourth victory in the URNO-NKL championship (96:84).
Augustinas Mikštas was the most productive player on the Šakiai team, scoring 21 points (3/8 two-pointers, 4/7 three-pointers, 3/4 free throws). The forward also grabbed 5 rebounds.
