Šakiai Vytis-VDU (5-2) triumphed for the third time in a row in the URBO-NKL season. Erikas Kučiauskas’s team defeated Kaunas Omega-Tauras-LSU (5-3) 94:82 (30:21, 19:27, 24:19, 21:15) at home.
Both teams delighted the spectators gathered at the VDU Sports Center with spectacular plays, as there were 10 dunks in this match. Gabrielius Čelka, who played at a triple-double pace, scored 12 points in 35 minutes (5/9 two-pointers, 0/1 three-pointers, 2/6 free throws), grabbed 6 rebounds, stole 3 balls, dished out 11 assists, blocked 2 shots, and accumulated 26 efficiency points.
Augustinas Mikštas was more productive than him, scoring 20 points (6/11 two-pointers, 2/4 three-pointers) in 29 minutes, grabbing 10 rebounds and stealing one ball, making 3 assists and generating 23 efficiency points.
The hosts built a double-digit lead at the start of the second quarter (34:21), but Omega-Tauras-LSU refused to give up and tipped the scales before the long break – 46:44. In the decisive quarter, the Šakiai team got back on track and restored their double-digit lead (77:67), storming to victory with a hurricane-like attack.
On Saturday evening, the hosts scored almost twice as many points off their opponents’ mistakes (27:14) and dominated in fast breaks – 33:13. Vytis-VDU played without Paulius Velutis and Nojus Lebskas.
