VMU rowing team is the winner of the Lithuanian Student Championship
The season of this year’s Lithuanian student sports competitions was opened with a rowing championship, which took place in Kupiškis. Athletes from five Lithuanian figher education institutions: Vytautas Magnus University (VMU), Lithuanian Sports University (LSU), Vilnius University (VU), Klaipėda University (KU) and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU), participated in this event. Students competed in six boat classes, and athletes were awarded six sets of medals.
Four female athletes competed in the women’s single boat class (W1x), and the winner was Martyna Kazlauskaitė, a 1st year student at VMU. In this match, silver and bronze medals were shared by LSU representatives – Agnė Ginevičiūtė and Agnė Maižvilaitė.
Nine athletes took part in the men’s singles boat class (W1x), and all prizes were won by VMU rowers: gold medal was awarded to third year student Armandas Kelmelis, silver – to Giedrius Bieliauskas, bronze – to Povilas Stankūnas.
Five crews competed in the men’s double without helmsman boat class (M2-). The winners of this competition were LSU representatives brothers Dovydas and Domantas Stankūnai, second – VMU rowers Saulius Jonas Ilonas (ŠA 4th course) and Giedrius Bieliauskas (VMU 3rd course), third place was won by KU representatives Tautvydas Vaitkūnas and Valdas Venckus.
Three crews competed in the men’s double boat class (M2x), the winners of this competition were VMU rowers Armandas Kelmelis (VMU 3rd course) and Virgilijus Prušinskas (ŠA 1st course), the second place was also won by our university athletes – Titas Mašanauskas (ŠA 1st course) and Benas Volkovas (ŠA 1st course), and the third – KU representatives Vladas Venckus and Tautvydas Vaitkūnas.
Five crews participated in the Mixed Twin class (Mix2x). VMU rowers Martyna Kazlauskaitė (ŠA 1st course) and Virgilijus Prušinskas (ŠA 1st course) won the competition, the second representatives of VMU – Miglė Kiršytė and Augustinas Matusevičius, and the third – the representatives of the same university Akvilė Rakauskaitė and Laurynas Misevičius.
After summing up the results in the general university classification, the winners were VMU athletes, who won 4 gold, 3 silver and one bronze medal. The second place was won by the rowers of Vilnius University (2 silver and 2 bronze medals), the third place went to the Lithuanian Sports University (2 gold, one silver and one bronze medal).
