Vytis-VDU snatched a dramatic win in Palanga

Playing with eight players, Šakiai Vytis-VDU (3-2) basketball players secured a dramatic URBO-NKL victory on the coast. Erikas Kučiauskas’s team won 85:83 (18:12, 27:20, 22:26, 18:25) against Palanga’s Olimpas (1-5), which has had a difficult start to the season.

The winner of the game was decided in the last minute of play. Laurynas Mikalauskas scored 5 points in a row to bring Palanga closer to their opponents (81:84), and Paulius Danisevičius, who stole the ball, assisted Matas Narvilas, reducing the deficit to a minimum – 83:84. The Šakiai team gathered for a consultation, and with 13 seconds left, Rokas Jocys forced Palanga to break the rules, but only made one of two free throws – 85:83.

After a minute’s break called by Erikas Kubilius, Narvilas made a mistake, but Titas Janusevičius stole the ball and provoked a foul, but he was inaccurate both times at the free throw line and gave the seaside team a chance to save themselves. In Olimpo’s last attack, Mindaugas Stašys tried to force overtime, but his drive to the basket was unsuccessful and Šakiai celebrated the victory.

The versatile Šakiai defender Nojus Vaivada scored 12 points (6/6 two-pointers, 0/3 three-pointers), 6 rebounds, 5 steals, 2 assists, and 23 efficiency points in 29 minutes. Rokas Jocys of Vytis-VDU scored 16 points (4/8 two-pointers, 2/5 three-pointers), 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 6 assists, 5 turnovers, and 12 efficiency points in 32 minutes.
