VMU delegation to the European University Games COIMBRA 2018

The European Universities Games is a multisport event involving athletes from universities of Europe, held every two years, since 2012, in different European Universities cities. This event is organized under the umbrella of the European University Sports Associations and Coimbra was selected to host the edition of 2018 between 13rd and 29th of July. In these games, the VMU delegation is made up of 43 people. This is the largest team from Lithuanian universities participating in the Games, which will play table tennis, basketball 3 × 3, judo, rowing. The first team of VMU Table tennis arrived in Coimbra. The girls’ team consists of: Vitalija Venckutė, Monika Kavaliūnaitė, Kristina Taurienė, Eva Misiūnaitė, Airidas Nutautas (team leader). The team of boys consists of: Matas Vilkas, Ignas Navickas, Vytas Rybakas, Ernestas Mincevičius, Vladas Juknevičius (team leader). In the group of girls, 12 universities compete. The VMU Table tennis team defeated the team of the Netherlands (Wageningen) (3: 1). In the boys group 16 universities compete for the name of the champions of the table tennis championship. VMU Table Tennis players defeated Finland (3: 0) (East Finland) University and (3: 0) Coimbra University teams and (3: 1) Lorraine University (France). The VMU boys’ team won first place in three wins and continued the games. The girls’ team won (3: 1) against Wageningen University (the Netherlands) and missed the Jan Dlugosz University (Poland) and also continued the quartet in the quarterfinals. Men in the quarterfinals after a tense fight won (3: 1) at the St.Petten University of Applied Sciences (Austria) and in the semi-finals they met with the University of Rzeszow (Poland). The match lost (3: 0) and secured the first medal of the bridegroom medal in the European Students’ League in the universities of Lithuania. On Saturday, the team of 3×3 basketball team (Ignas Labutis, Rokas Stankevicius, Aurimas Urbonas, Lukas Grabauskas, Senior Coach Arunas Juknevičius) and Armandas Kelmelis team of Riders (M2X) and coach Vydūnas Banelis joined the delegation of the VMU. Players will fight for the strongest university name with 23 European universities. On July 16, the start-up basketball players won three major victories in the European Student Games: University of Porto, Polytechnic Institute (19: 6), Coimbra University (21:13), Pecs University (Hungary) (21:13). Riders will go to March 16th and take part in the 10th Minnesota Medal Championships in the category of M2X boats. On July 20, the Anthony Belazjun, a Judo fighter Anastasia Belazjun and a football team consisting of: Domantas Mazgys, Albert Voskunovic, Martynas Rumkis, Valdemar Šaveik, Dominykas Norkus, Ričardas Kūlis, Tomas Bielickas, Edvinas Alimkinas, Marius Zabarauskas, Domantas Bukauskas, Udokas Tochukwas will start fighting at the University Games.
